Properties
abstract member Duplex: DuplexConstructor with get, set
abstract member Duplex: DuplexConstructor with get, setDuplex streams are streams that implement both the Readable and Writable interfaces.
Examples of Duplex streams include:
TCP socketszlib streamscrypto streams
@since v0.9.4
abstract member EventEmitter: EventEmitterConstructor with get, setabstract member EventEmitterAsyncResource: EventEmitterAsyncResourceConstructor with get, set
abstract member EventEmitterAsyncResource: EventEmitterAsyncResourceConstructor with get, setIntegrates EventEmitter with AsyncResource for EventEmitters that require manual async tracking. Specifically, all events emitted by instances of events.EventEmitterAsyncResource will run within its async context.
import { EventEmitterAsyncResource, EventEmitter } from 'node:events';
import { notStrictEqual, strictEqual } from 'node:assert';
import { executionAsyncId, triggerAsyncId } from 'node:async_hooks';
// Async tracking tooling will identify this as 'Q'.
const ee1 = new EventEmitterAsyncResource({ name: 'Q' });
// 'foo' listeners will run in the EventEmitters async context.
ee1.on('foo', () => {
strictEqual(executionAsyncId(), ee1.asyncId);
strictEqual(triggerAsyncId(), ee1.triggerAsyncId);
});
const ee2 = new EventEmitter();
// 'foo' listeners on ordinary EventEmitters that do not track async
// context, however, run in the same async context as the emit().
ee2.on('foo', () => {
notStrictEqual(executionAsyncId(), ee2.asyncId);
notStrictEqual(triggerAsyncId(), ee2.triggerAsyncId);
});
Promise.resolve().then(() => {
ee1.emit('foo');
ee2.emit('foo');
});
The EventEmitterAsyncResource class has the same methods and takes the same options as EventEmitter and AsyncResource themselves.

abstract member PassThrough: PassThroughConstructor with get, set
abstract member PassThrough: PassThroughConstructor with get, setThe stream.PassThrough class is a trivial implementation of a Transform stream that simply passes the input bytes across to the output. Its purpose is primarily for examples and testing, but there are some use cases where stream.PassThrough is useful as a building block for novel sorts of streams.
abstract member Readable: ReadableConstructor with get, set
abstract member Readable: ReadableConstructor with get, set@since v0.9.4
abstract member Stream: StreamConstructor with get, setabstract member Transform: TransformConstructor with get, set
abstract member Transform: TransformConstructor with get, setTransform streams are Duplex streams where the output is in some way related to the input. Like all Duplex streams, Transform streams implement both the Readable and Writable interfaces.
Examples of Transform streams include:
zlib streamscrypto streams

abstract member Writable: WritableConstructor with get, set
abstract member Writable: WritableConstructor with get, set@since v0.9.4
abstract member alpnProtocol: U2<string,bool> option with get, set
abstract member alpnProtocol: U2<string,bool> option with get, setString containing the selected ALPN protocol. Before a handshake has completed, this value is always null. When a handshake is completed but not ALPN protocol was selected, tlsSocket.alpnProtocol equals false.
abstract member authorizationError: exn with get, set
abstract member authorizationError: exn with get, setReturns the reason why the peer's certificate was not been verified. This property is set only when tlsSocket.authorized === false.
@since v0.11.4
abstract member authorized: bool with get, set
abstract member authorized: bool with get, setThis property is true if the peer certificate was signed by one of the CAs specified when creating the tls.TLSSocket instance, otherwise false.
@since v0.11.4
abstract member captureRejectionSymbol: Symbol
abstract member captureRejectionSymbol: SymbolValue: Symbol.for('nodejs.rejection')
See how to write a custom rejection handler.
@since v13.4.0, v12.16.0
abstract member captureRejections: bool with get, set
abstract member captureRejections: bool with get, setValue: boolean
Change the default captureRejections option on all new EventEmitter objects.
@since v13.4.0, v12.16.0
abstract member defaultMaxListeners: float with get, set
abstract member defaultMaxListeners: float with get, setBy default, a maximum of 10 listeners can be registered for any single event. This limit can be changed for individual EventEmitter instances using the emitter.setMaxListeners(n) method. To change the default for allEventEmitter instances, the events.defaultMaxListeners property can be used. If this value is not a positive number, a RangeError is thrown.
Take caution when setting the events.defaultMaxListeners because the change affects all EventEmitter instances, including those created before the change is made. However, calling emitter.setMaxListeners(n) still has precedence over events.defaultMaxListeners.
This is not a hard limit. The EventEmitter instance will allow more listeners to be added but will output a trace warning to stderr indicating that a "possible EventEmitter memory leak" has been detected. For any single EventEmitter, the emitter.getMaxListeners() and emitter.setMaxListeners() methods can be used to temporarily avoid this warning:
import { EventEmitter } from 'node:events';
const emitter = new EventEmitter();
emitter.setMaxListeners(emitter.getMaxListeners() + 1);
emitter.once('event', () => {
// do stuff
emitter.setMaxListeners(Math.max(emitter.getMaxListeners() - 1, 0));
});
The --trace-warnings command-line flag can be used to display the stack trace for such warnings.
The emitted warning can be inspected with process.on('warning') and will have the additional emitter, type, and count properties, referring to the event emitter instance, the event's name and the number of attached listeners, respectively. Its name property is set to 'MaxListenersExceededWarning'.
@since v0.11.2
abstract member encrypted: bool with get, set
abstract member encrypted: bool with get, setAlways returns true. This may be used to distinguish TLS sockets from regularnet.Socket instances.
@since v0.11.4
abstract member errorMonitor: Symbol
abstract member errorMonitor: SymbolThis symbol shall be used to install a listener for only monitoring 'error' events. Listeners installed using this symbol are called before the regular 'error' listeners are called.
Installing a listener using this symbol does not change the behavior once an 'error' event is emitted. Therefore, the process will still crash if no regular 'error' listener is installed.
@since v13.6.0, v12.17.0
abstract member finished: Finished with get, set
abstract member finished: Finished with get, setA readable and/or writable stream/webstream.
A function to get notified when a stream is no longer readable, writable or has experienced an error or a premature close event.
import { finished } from 'node:stream';
import fs from 'node:fs';
const rs = fs.createReadStream('archive.tar');
finished(rs, (err) => {
if (err) {
console.error('Stream failed.', err);
} else {
console.log('Stream is done reading.');
}
});
rs.resume(); // Drain the stream.
Especially useful in error handling scenarios where a stream is destroyed prematurely (like an aborted HTTP request), and will not emit 'end' or 'finish'.
The finished API provides promise version.
stream.finished() leaves dangling event listeners (in particular 'error', 'end', 'finish' and 'close') after callback has been invoked. The reason for this is so that unexpected 'error' events (due to incorrect stream implementations) do not cause unexpected crashes. If this is unwanted behavior then the returned cleanup function needs to be invoked in the callback:
const cleanup = finished(rs, (err) => {
cleanup();
// ...
});
@since v10.0.0
| Parameter | |
|---|---|
stream | A readable and/or writable stream. |
callback | A callback function that takes an optional error argument. |
Returns. A cleanup function which removes all registered listeners.
abstract member pipeline: Pipeline with get, set
abstract member pipeline: Pipeline with get, setA module method to pipe between streams and generators forwarding errors and properly cleaning up and provide a callback when the pipeline is complete.
import { pipeline } from 'node:stream';
import fs from 'node:fs';
import zlib from 'node:zlib';
// Use the pipeline API to easily pipe a series of streams
// together and get notified when the pipeline is fully done.
// A pipeline to gzip a potentially huge tar file efficiently:
pipeline(
fs.createReadStream('archive.tar'),
zlib.createGzip(),
fs.createWriteStream('archive.tar.gz'),
(err) => {
if (err) {
console.error('Pipeline failed.', err);
} else {
console.log('Pipeline succeeded.');
}
},
);
The pipeline API provides a promise version.
stream.pipeline() will call stream.destroy(err) on all streams except:
Readablestreams which have emitted'end'or'close'.Writablestreams which have emitted'finish'or'close'.
stream.pipeline() leaves dangling event listeners on the streams after the callback has been invoked. In the case of reuse of streams after failure, this can cause event listener leaks and swallowed errors. If the last stream is readable, dangling event listeners will be removed so that the last stream can be consumed later.
stream.pipeline() closes all the streams when an error is raised. The IncomingRequest usage with pipeline could lead to an unexpected behavior once it would destroy the socket without sending the expected response. See the example below:
import fs from 'node:fs';
import http from 'node:http';
import { pipeline } from 'node:stream';
const server = http.createServer((req, res) => {
const fileStream = fs.createReadStream('./fileNotExist.txt');
pipeline(fileStream, res, (err) => {
if (err) {
console.log(err); // No such file
// this message can't be sent once `pipeline` already destroyed the socket
return res.end('error!!!');
}
});
});
@since v10.0.0
| Parameter | |
|---|---|
callback | Called when the pipeline is fully done. |

static member addAbortListener (signal: AbortSignal, resource: Event -> unit) : Disposable
static member addAbortListener (signal: AbortSignal, resource: Event -> unit) : DisposableListens once to the abort event on the provided signal.
Listening to the abort event on abort signals is unsafe and may lead to resource leaks since another third party with the signal can call e.stopImmediatePropagation(). Unfortunately Node.js cannot change this since it would violate the web standard. Additionally, the original API makes it easy to forget to remove listeners.
This API allows safely using AbortSignals in Node.js APIs by solving these two issues by listening to the event such that stopImmediatePropagation does not prevent the listener from running.
Returns a disposable so that it may be unsubscribed from more easily.
import { addAbortListener } from 'node:events';
function example(signal) {
let disposable;
try {
signal.addEventListener('abort', (e) => e.stopImmediatePropagation());
disposable = addAbortListener(signal, (e) => {
// Do something when signal is aborted.
});
} finally {
disposable?.[Symbol.dispose]();
}
}
@since v20.5.0
Returns. Disposable that removes the abort listener.
static member addAbortSignal<'T when 'T :> Stream> (signal: AbortSignal, stream: 'T) : 'T
static member addAbortSignal<'T when 'T :> Stream> (signal: AbortSignal, stream: 'T) : 'TA stream to attach a signal to.
Attaches an AbortSignal to a readable or writeable stream. This lets code control stream destruction using an AbortController.
Calling abort on the AbortController corresponding to the passed AbortSignal will behave the same way as calling .destroy(new AbortError()) on the stream, and controller.error(new AbortError()) for webstreams.
import fs from 'node:fs';
const controller = new AbortController();
const read = addAbortSignal(
controller.signal,
fs.createReadStream(('object.json')),
);
// Later, abort the operation closing the stream
controller.abort();
Or using an AbortSignal with a readable stream as an async iterable:
const controller = new AbortController();
setTimeout(() => controller.abort(), 10_000); // set a timeout
const stream = addAbortSignal(
controller.signal,
fs.createReadStream(('object.json')),
);
(async () => {
try {
for await (const chunk of stream) {
await process(chunk);
}
} catch (e) {
if (e.name === 'AbortError') {
// The operation was cancelled
} else {
throw e;
}
}
})();
Or using an AbortSignal with a ReadableStream:
const controller = new AbortController();
const rs = new ReadableStream({
start(controller) {
controller.enqueue('hello');
controller.enqueue('world');
controller.close();
},
});
addAbortSignal(controller.signal, rs);
finished(rs, (err) => {
if (err) {
if (err.name === 'AbortError') {
// The operation was cancelled
}
}
});
const reader = rs.getReader();
reader.read().then(({ value, done }) => {
console.log(value); // hello
console.log(done); // false
controller.abort();
});

Whatever is written to one stream is made readable on the other. It provides behavior analogous to a network connection, where the data written by the client becomes readable by the server, and vice-versa.
The Duplex streams are symmetrical; one or the other may be used without any difference in behavior.
@since v22.6.0
| Parameter | |
|---|---|
options | A value to pass to both {@link Duplex} constructors, to set options such as buffering. |

abstract member enableTrace () : unit
abstract member enableTrace () : unitWhen enabled, TLS packet trace information is written to stderr. This can be used to debug TLS connection problems.
The format of the output is identical to the output ofopenssl s_client -trace or openssl s_server -trace. While it is produced by OpenSSL's SSL_trace() function, the format is undocumented, can change without notice, and should not be relied on.

static member getEventListeners (emitter: U2<EventEmitter<unit array>,EventTarget>, name: U2<string,Symbol>) : Function array
static member getEventListeners (emitter: U2<EventEmitter<unit array>,EventTarget>, name: U2<string,Symbol>) : Function arrayReturns a copy of the array of listeners for the event named eventName.
For EventEmitters this behaves exactly the same as calling .listeners on the emitter.
For EventTargets this is the only way to get the event listeners for the event target. This is useful for debugging and diagnostic purposes.
import { getEventListeners, EventEmitter } from 'node:events';
{
const ee = new EventEmitter();
const listener = () => console.log('Events are fun');
ee.on('foo', listener);
console.log(getEventListeners(ee, 'foo')); // [ [Function: listener] ]
}

abstract member getFinished () : NonSharedBuffer option
abstract member getFinished () : NonSharedBuffer optionAs the Finished messages are message digests of the complete handshake (with a total of 192 bits for TLS 1.0 and more for SSL 3.0), they can be used for external authentication procedures when the authentication provided by SSL/TLS is not desired or is not enough.
Corresponds to the SSL_get_finished routine in OpenSSL and may be used to implement the tls-unique channel binding from RFC 5929.
@since v9.9.0
Returns. The latest Finished message that has been sent to the socket as part of a SSL/TLS handshake, or undefined if no Finished message has been sent yet.
static member getMaxListeners (emitter: U2<EventEmitter<unit array>,EventTarget>) : float
static member getMaxListeners (emitter: U2<EventEmitter<unit array>,EventTarget>) : floatReturns the currently set max amount of listeners.
For EventEmitters this behaves exactly the same as calling .getMaxListeners on the emitter.
For EventTargets this is the only way to get the max event listeners for the event target. If the number of event handlers on a single EventTarget exceeds the max set, the EventTarget will print a warning.
import { getMaxListeners, setMaxListeners, EventEmitter } from 'node:events';
{
const ee = new EventEmitter();
console.log(getMaxListeners(ee)); // 10
setMaxListeners(11, ee);
console.log(getMaxListeners(ee)); // 11

// Unreachable here
Returns an AsyncIterator that iterates eventName events. It will throw if the EventEmitter emits 'error'. It removes all listeners when exiting the loop. The value returned by each iteration is an array composed of the emitted event arguments.
An AbortSignal can be used to cancel waiting on events:
import { on, EventEmitter } from 'node:events';

abstract member on (event: string, listener: obj array -> unit) : TLSSocket
abstract member on (event: string, listener: obj array -> unit) : TLSSocketAdds the listener function to the end of the listeners array for the event named eventName. Returns a reference to the EventEmitter, so that calls can be chained.
By default, event listeners are invoked in the order they are added. The emitter.prependListener() method can be used as an alternative to add the event listener to the beginning of the listeners array.

static member once (emitter: EventTarget, eventName: string, ?options: StaticEventEmitterOptions) : Promise<obj array>
static member once (emitter: EventTarget, eventName: string, ?options: StaticEventEmitterOptions) : Promise<obj array>Creates a Promise that is fulfilled when the EventEmitter emits the given event or that is rejected if the EventEmitter emits 'error' while waiting. The Promise will resolve with an array of all the arguments emitted to the given event.
This method is intentionally generic and works with the web platform EventTarget interface, which has no special'error' event semantics and does not listen to the 'error' event.
import { once, EventEmitter } from 'node:events';

abstract member ref () : TLSSocket
abstract member ref () : TLSSocketOpposite of unref(), calling ref() on a previously unrefed socket will not let the program exit if it's the only socket left (the default behavior). If the socket is refed calling ref again will have no effect.
@since v0.9.1
Returns. The socket itself.
abstract member removeAllListeners (?eventName: U2<string,Symbol>) : TLSSocket
abstract member removeAllListeners (?eventName: U2<string,Symbol>) : TLSSocketRemoves all listeners, or those of the specified eventName.
It is bad practice to remove listeners added elsewhere in the code, particularly when the EventEmitter instance was created by some other component or module (e.g. sockets or file streams).
Returns a reference to the EventEmitter, so that calls can be chained.
@since v0.1.26
abstract member removeListener (event: U2<string,Symbol>, listener: obj array -> unit) : TLSSocket
abstract member removeListener (event: U2<string,Symbol>, listener: obj array -> unit) : TLSSocketRemoves the specified listener from the listener array for the event named eventName.
const callback = (stream) => {
console.log('someone connected!');
};
server.on('connection', callback);
// ...
server.removeListener('connection', callback);
removeListener() will remove, at most, one instance of a listener from the listener array. If any single listener has been added multiple times to the listener array for the specified eventName, then removeListener() must be called multiple times to remove each instance.
Once an event is emitted, all listeners attached to it at the time of emitting are called in order. This implies that any removeListener() or removeAllListeners() calls after emitting and before the last listener finishes execution will not remove them fromemit() in progress. Subsequent events behave as expected.
import { EventEmitter } from 'node:events';
class MyEmitter extends EventEmitter {}
const myEmitter = new MyEmitter();
const callbackA = () => {
console.log('A');
myEmitter.removeListener('event', callbackB);
};
const callbackB = () => {
console.log('B');
};
myEmitter.on('event', callbackA);
myEmitter.on('event', callbackB);
// callbackA removes listener callbackB but it will still be called.
// Internal listener array at time of emit [callbackA, callbackB]
myEmitter.emit('event');
// Prints:
// A
// B
// callbackB is now removed.
// Internal listener array [callbackA]
myEmitter.emit('event');
// Prints:
// A
Because listeners are managed using an internal array, calling this will change the position indices of any listener registered after the listener being removed. This will not impact the order in which listeners are called, but it means that any copies of the listener array as returned by the emitter.listeners() method will need to be recreated.
When a single function has been added as a handler multiple times for a single event (as in the example below), removeListener() will remove the most recently added instance. In the example the once('ping') listener is removed:
import { EventEmitter } from 'node:events';
const ee = new EventEmitter();
function pong() {
console.log('pong');
}
ee.on('ping', pong);
ee.once('ping', pong);
ee.removeListener('ping', pong);
ee.emit('ping');
ee.emit('ping');
Returns a reference to the EventEmitter, so that calls can be chained.

abstract member renegotiate (options: Options, callback: exn option -> unit) : bool option
abstract member renegotiate (options: Options, callback: exn option -> unit) : bool optionThe tlsSocket.renegotiate() method initiates a TLS renegotiation process. Upon completion, the callback function will be passed a single argument that is either an Error (if the request failed) or null.
This method can be used to request a peer's certificate after the secure connection has been established.
When running as the server, the socket will be destroyed with an error after handshakeTimeout timeout.
For TLSv1.3, renegotiation cannot be initiated, it is not supported by the protocol.
@since v0.11.8
| Parameter | |
|---|---|
callback | If renegotiate() returned true, callback is attached once to the 'secure' event. If renegotiate() returned false, callback will be called in the next tick with an error, unless the tlsSocket has been destroyed, in which case callback will not be called at all. |
Returns. true if renegotiation was initiated, false otherwise.
abstract member resetAndDestroy () : TLSSocket
abstract member resetAndDestroy () : TLSSocketClose the TCP connection by sending an RST packet and destroy the stream. If this TCP socket is in connecting status, it will send an RST packet and destroy this TCP socket once it is connected. Otherwise, it will call socket.destroy with an ERR_SOCKET_CLOSED Error. If this is not a TCP socket (for example, a pipe), calling this method will immediately throw an ERR_INVALID_HANDLE_TYPE Error.
@since v18.3.0, v16.17.0
abstract member resume () : TLSSocket
abstract member resume () : TLSSocketResumes reading after a call to socket.pause().
Returns. The socket itself.
abstract member setDefaultEncoding (encoding: BufferEncoding) : TLSSocket
abstract member setDefaultEncoding (encoding: BufferEncoding) : TLSSocketThe writable.setDefaultEncoding() method sets the default encoding for a Writable stream.
@since v0.11.15
| Parameter | |
|---|---|
encoding | The new default encoding |
static member setDefaultHighWaterMark (objectMode: bool, value: float) : unit
static member setDefaultHighWaterMark (objectMode: bool, value: float) : unitSets the default highWaterMark used by streams.
@since v19.9.0
| Parameter | |
|---|---|
value | highWaterMark value |
abstract member setEncoding (?encoding: BufferEncoding) : TLSSocket
abstract member setEncoding (?encoding: BufferEncoding) : TLSSocketSet the encoding for the socket as a Readable Stream. See readable.setEncoding() for more information.
@since v0.1.90
Returns. The socket itself.
abstract member setKeepAlive (?enable: bool, ?initialDelay: float) : TLSSocket
abstract member setKeepAlive (?enable: bool, ?initialDelay: float) : TLSSocketEnable/disable keep-alive functionality, and optionally set the initial delay before the first keepalive probe is sent on an idle socket.
Set initialDelay (in milliseconds) to set the delay between the last data packet received and the first keepalive probe. Setting 0 forinitialDelay will leave the value unchanged from the default (or previous) setting.
Enabling the keep-alive functionality will set the following socket options:
SO_KEEPALIVE=1TCP_KEEPIDLE=initialDelayTCP_KEEPCNT=10TCP_KEEPINTVL=1
@since v0.1.92
Returns. The socket itself.
abstract member setKeyCert (context: U2<SecureContext,SecureContextOptions>) : unit
abstract member setKeyCert (context: U2<SecureContext,SecureContextOptions>) : unitThe tlsSocket.setKeyCert() method sets the private key and certificate to use for the socket. This is mainly useful if you wish to select a server certificate from a TLS server's ALPNCallback.
@since v22.5.0, v20.17.0
| Parameter | |
|---|---|
context | An object containing at least key and cert properties from the {@link createSecureContext()} options, or a TLS context object created with {@link createSecureContext()} itself. |
static member setMaxListeners (n: float option, eventTargets: U2<EventEmitter<unit array>,EventTarget> array) : unit
static member setMaxListeners (n: float option, eventTargets: U2<EventEmitter<unit array>,EventTarget> array) : unitimport { setMaxListeners, EventEmitter } from 'node:events';
const target = new EventTarget();
const emitter = new EventEmitter();
setMaxListeners(5, target, emitter);
@since v15.4.0
| Parameter | |
|---|---|
n | A non-negative number. The maximum number of listeners per EventTarget event. |
eventTargets | Zero or more or instances. If none are specified, n is set as the default max for all newly created and objects. |
abstract member setMaxListeners (n: float) : TLSSocket
abstract member setMaxListeners (n: float) : TLSSocketBy default EventEmitters will print a warning if more than 10 listeners are added for a particular event. This is a useful default that helps finding memory leaks. The emitter.setMaxListeners() method allows the limit to be modified for this specific EventEmitter instance. The value can be set to Infinity (or 0) to indicate an unlimited number of listeners.
Returns a reference to the EventEmitter, so that calls can be chained.
@since v0.3.5
abstract member setMaxSendFragment (size: float) : bool
abstract member setMaxSendFragment (size: float) : boolThe tlsSocket.setMaxSendFragment() method sets the maximum TLS fragment size. Returns true if setting the limit succeeded; false otherwise.
Smaller fragment sizes decrease the buffering latency on the client: larger fragments are buffered by the TLS layer until the entire fragment is received and its integrity is verified; large fragments can span multiple roundtrips and their processing can be delayed due to packet loss or reordering. However, smaller fragments add extra TLS framing bytes and CPU overhead, which may decrease overall server throughput.
@since v0.11.11
| Parameter | |
|---|---|
size | The maximum TLS fragment size. The maximum value is 16384. |
abstract member setNoDelay (?noDelay: bool) : TLSSocket
abstract member setNoDelay (?noDelay: bool) : TLSSocketEnable/disable the use of Nagle's algorithm.
When a TCP connection is created, it will have Nagle's algorithm enabled.
Nagle's algorithm delays data before it is sent via the network. It attempts to optimize throughput at the expense of latency.
Passing true for noDelay or not passing an argument will disable Nagle's algorithm for the socket. Passing false for noDelay will enable Nagle's algorithm.
@since v0.1.90
Returns. The socket itself.
abstract member setTimeout (timeout: float, ?callback: (unit -> unit)) : TLSSocket
abstract member setTimeout (timeout: float, ?callback: (unit -> unit)) : TLSSocketSets the socket to timeout after timeout milliseconds of inactivity on the socket. By default net.Socket do not have a timeout.
When an idle timeout is triggered the socket will receive a 'timeout' event but the connection will not be severed. The user must manually call socket.end() or socket.destroy() to end the connection.
socket.setTimeout(3000);
socket.on('timeout', () => {
console.log('socket timeout');
socket.end();
});
If timeout is 0, then the existing idle timeout is disabled.
The optional callback parameter will be added as a one-time listener for the 'timeout' event.
@since v0.1.90
Returns. The socket itself.
static member toWeb (streamDuplex: Duplex) : Result
static member toWeb (streamDuplex: Duplex) : ResultA utility method for creating a web ReadableStream and WritableStream from a Duplex.
@since v17.0.0
abstract member unpipe (?destination: WritableStream) : TLSSocket
abstract member unpipe (?destination: WritableStream) : TLSSocketThe readable.unpipe() method detaches a Writable stream previously attached using the pipe method.
If the destination is not specified, then all pipes are detached.
If the destination is specified, but no pipe is set up for it, then the method does nothing.
import fs from 'node:fs';
const readable = getReadableStreamSomehow();
const writable = fs.createWriteStream('file.txt');
// All the data from readable goes into 'file.txt',
// but only for the first second.
readable.pipe(writable);
setTimeout(() => {
console.log('Stop writing to file.txt.');
readable.unpipe(writable);
console.log('Manually close the file stream.');
writable.end();
}, 1000);
@since v0.9.4
| Parameter | |
|---|---|
destination | Optional specific stream to unpipe |
abstract member unref () : TLSSocket
abstract member unref () : TLSSocketCalling unref() on a socket will allow the program to exit if this is the only active socket in the event system. If the socket is already unrefed callingunref() again will have no effect.
@since v0.9.1
Returns. The socket itself.
abstract member wrap (stream: ReadableStream) : TLSSocket
abstract member wrap (stream: ReadableStream) : TLSSocketPrior to Node.js 0.10, streams did not implement the entire node:stream module API as it is currently defined. (See Compatibility for more information.)
When using an older Node.js library that emits 'data' events and has a pause method that is advisory only, the readable.wrap() method can be used to create a Readable stream that uses the old stream as its data source.
It will rarely be necessary to use readable.wrap() but the method has been provided as a convenience for interacting with older Node.js applications and libraries.
import { OldReader } from './old-api-module.js';
import { Readable } from 'node:stream';
const oreader = new OldReader();
const myReader = new Readable().wrap(oreader);
myReader.on('readable', () => {
myReader.read(); // etc.
});
@since v0.9.4
| Parameter | |
|---|---|
stream | An "old style" readable stream |
